PRINCIPLES AND FEATURES OF THE INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM PART I: RISK REDUCTION AND MITIGATION
You identified specific catastrophes and disasters that could affect your community in Module 2 of the SLP. You also performed a Hazard and Vulnerability Analysis to determine the most serious threat to your chosen town or organization. You will recognize the following for Module 3 SLP:Who will be in charge of the catastrophe operations’ direction and control?
What criteria would you use to determine who should take the lead in an emergency?
In the event of an emergency, what methods of communication would you recommend for keeping control?
What kind of field employees would you trust to make independent decisions?
Is it reasonable to allow people to participate in the disaster management process during a crisis?
Make sure your response is relevant to or applies to the disasters listed in Module 1 of the SLP.
Note to students: As an SLP for this course, it is unreasonable to expect you to write a full Emergency Management Plan for your community. As a result, you should respond to the questions above in a broad sense. For example, under direction and control of activities, you should specify who is in charge of the overall catastrophe and how you plan to control the disaster response. What are your strategies for life safety in terms of your community’s ability to respond to different levels of disaster? The preparedness of the response is always determined by the severity of the event. Send an e-mail
to the teacher if you need assistance with any area of this SLP, and you will receive a response as quickly as possible. The essential objective is to “calmly” think through the assignment’s underlying concerns rather than panicking about it. Consider this “performing under duress,” as you may be required to do in an emergency.
Expectations for SLP Assignments
The length of this SLP, excluding the title page and references, should be at least 3-5 pages.
At least two references from academic sources should be given (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles). There are readings that must be completed. The amount of quoted content should not exceed 10% of the whole document (since the focus of these assignments is critical thinking). Make use of your own words while also expanding on the ideas of others. When text is reproduced verbatim from another source, it must be surrounded by quotation marks. The references should be cited in the text and listed in the References section at the end of the assignment (preferably in APA format).
Subheadings should be used to structure your paper into sections based on the question.
Grammar and Spelling: While minor errors will not be penalized, assignments must follow conventional grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence syntax requirements. If grammar and spelling have an impact on clarity, points may be deducted.
