Throughout the first half of this course as we have studied the various theories, many of you have mentioned a preference for CBT as your go-to theoretical base for your counseling practice. Along with this very familiar theory this week includes the one in our text that is perhaps the least widely known and used. Although Transactional Analysis is less widely used, we should understand how it can be used in the work with children and their families. Finally, we will look at Chapter 15 Family Counseling. Family Counseling is a field of study and practice all its own. One chapter will not do it justice, but we should understand that a child who needs help is not a person in isolation. The family as a whole should be understood and used as one of the resources to help the child.

-Explain enmeshment, disengaged, detriangulation, and first-order and second-order change.
-Choose two models of family therapy and compare and contrast those models.
-Discuss Virginia Satir’s approach to family therapy.
